The art of simplicity

There are two ingredients inherently important to my personal and professional life. Whether it is my fashion style or decorating a room or garden, even my cooking; simplicity and functionality rule my world.

So today I want to appreciate the simple and functional pleasure in life. This morning I have sent my children off to school with my usual hug and kiss and my mantra "Listen and Learn" just to find them home right after lunch. Yes, school has been cancelled due to impending weather. So, it is sort of snowing outside and I am feeling a little bit exhausted from a forth major snow storm in March only! This has been a really rough winter and our family managed to burn through a cord of wood over the past few months. I am glad I foresaw the cold weather and asked my husband to arrange for a wood delivery this past weekend. Thankfully it has been a really nice weather on Saturday and Jeffrey and the kids all helped out to stack the newly delivered wood. I am grateful for my intuition because today, the temperatures are staying around freezing and snow is falling and expecting to fall over the next 24+ hours. A perfect fire weather!

Fire! The source of warmth, protection, coziness and togetherness. There is something very grounding about being in the energy of a fire. It is mesmerizing like watching TV with the extra depth that touches something deep inside of your soul. When I took my yoga training program, I was fascinated by the Solar Plexus chakra (also Manipura chakra, the seat of your fire and power). For the first time in my life, I heard that there is a place in your body where all emotions get burned and recycled into your self confidence and trust in self. Essentially, it is your stomach that is a huge furnace inside of your body and it is a place of your power, which glows through like burning embers in the form of our talents and abilities to succeed.

When we moved into our current home, a fireplace was a number on priority. Shortly after we moved in, we found out that the fireplace is very temperamental and kept on smoking. I decided that we should enclose it with a wood burning stove or insert. It was quite a bit of a battle to get my husband on board. I have done a very extensive research into what product to get. Morso was hands down my first and only choice. It showed to be the most enjoyable and useful investment into our house. From November through March, we gather around the fire. Most mornings, my children ask me if I could have the fire going before they come home from school. They love it sit there, right in front of it, doing their homework, reading, playing or just simply being. It is a quiet companion, providing just a soft sound of crackling.

In our busy and over-structured social lives, there is so much beauty, humbleness and slowness in the simplicity of a fire. So why not to give it a try! And if you stare at it long enough, maybe you might feel a deeper connection and appreciation for all being.
