The Little Book of Hygge (prounounced HOO-GA) by Meik Wiking

It is said that the Danes are famously the happiest people in the world. Why is that? Hygge!!! I found this book in the window of a bookstore in nearby village. While I live by the simple principles of hygge for a long time, I found this book indispensable lifestyle resource. We all need more candles, togetherness, food and drinks in our lives.

Excerpt form page 206:
Today, political leaders from around the world are expressing an interest in why some societies are happier than others. At the same time, countries are taking steps to measure their success as a society - not only from how much the economy grows, but also from how much their lives are improved, not just by the standard of living but quality of life. This is one of the consequences of the paradigm shift away from gross domestic product (GDP) as the dominant indicator for progress in recent years. However, this idea is not new. As Robert Kennedy pointed out more than forty years ago:

The gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of this education or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials... it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.

I can only encourage you to take pleasures in simplicities of life. Light up those candles at the dinner table, gather with your friends and family regularly for meals and celebrations, warm up your living room with a fireplace or wood burning stove, make a cup of tea served in your favorite ceramic or porcelain cup, take a break with a book while snuggled up with a blanket on a couch or in your favorite chair and at the same time show your children that they can follow the same foot steps. Happiness is within reach! Relax and enjoy.
